Apple Hill Farm

Banner Elk, NC

A Blue Ridge working alpaca and fiber farm where a barn-based farm store sells yarn, socks, craft kits and animal-themed goods, while advance-ticketed guided tours provide controlled access to the animals.

Apple Hill Farm combines a working fiber-animal farm with a substantial farm store and separately scheduled guided tours of its animal areas.

Field notes

Why it belongs

Working alpaca and fiber farm, barn-based farm store, craft and fiber-goods retail and advance-ticketed guided animal tours.

A real working farm turns its fiber and animal story into a substantial specialty store while keeping animal access carefully separated through guided tours.

Apple Hill Farm’s Banner Elk property is a working farm and destination shop selling socks, yarn, fiber goods, craft kits, books, stuffed animals, dryer balls and other farm-themed merchandise. Some fiber comes from the farm’s own alpacas and llamas and is processed through outside mills or cooperatives; other goods use American or fair-trade sources, so the inventory is not represented as entirely farm-raised or farm-made. Visitors can shop the Farm Store without a tour reservation when it is open. Animal areas are different: access requires an advance-ticketed guided tour, the farm is not a petting zoo, and particular animal interactions are never guaranteed. The separate Apple Hill Farm Outpost at 414 Shawneehaw Avenue has no animals and contributes no address, phone, image or inventory claims to this farm record.
