Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe sits inside Washington State University's Food Quality Building alongside the WSU Creamery. The shop sells Ferdinand's ice cream, old-fashioned soda-fountain treats, coffee and Cougar Cheese, while the Marc P. Bates Observation Room gives visitors a self-guided view into active food production and offers short educational videos. WSU says Monday through Thursday from roughly 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is usually the best window for cheesemaking, while ice-cream production varies and should be checked in advance. Cleaning or other work may replace visible production. Hosted visits for groups of 12 or more are separate from ordinary public observation, and selected event Saturdays are exceptions to the normal weekday schedule.
