Gap Mercantile
Caddo Gap, AR
A 1932 Arkansas mercantile where heirloom seeds, retro candy, farm tools, quilts, pottery, soaps, books, antiques, local foods, farming-history displays, and even a cottage all occupy the same old store.
Gap Mercantile preserves the feel of a Depression-era country store while mixing old-fashioned candy and pantry goods with heirloom seeds, antiques, farm tools, handmade crafts, books, soaps, local history, and an overnight cottage built into the rear of the property.
Field notes
Why it belongs
Part historic general store, part seed shop, part candy counter, part antique-and-farm-tool collection, part artisan market, part local-history display, and part lodging destination.
The building itself adds another layer: visitors browse merchandise among original counters and farming artifacts in a 1932 mercantile that still functions as a real store.
Built in 1932, Gap Mercantile in Caddo Gap deliberately preserves the look and feel of an old Arkansas general store. Original counters and historic displays share the building with shelves of retro candy and soda, jams and pickled foods, heirloom seeds, books and DVDs, antique farm tools, pottery, quilts, handmade soaps, souvenirs, and other locally rooted goods. Farming-history displays reinforce the museum-like atmosphere, while a separate cottage in the back of the mercantile can even be rented overnight.
