COColorado field entry
Golden Curiosity Shop
Golden, CO
A downtown Golden curiosity shop where taxidermy, skulls, fossils, meteorites, insects, minerals, books, science toys, live axolotls, a T. rex, and a 400,000-volt generator turn retail into a miniature natural-history museum.
Golden Curiosity Shop mixes the shelves of a natural-history dealer, mineral shop, science store, bookshop, and curiosity cabinet with interactive demonstrations and museum-scale displays inside its new downtown Golden location.
Field notes
Why it belongs
Part natural-history museum, part taxidermy shop, part fossil-and-mineral store, part science center, part bookstore, part educational toy shop, and part curiosity cabinet.
The merchandise is strange enough on its own, but the T. rex, live axolotls, giant electrical generator, skull displays, and owner-built science demonstrations make browsing feel more like exploring a small independent museum.
Golden Curiosity Shop moved into the heart of downtown Golden in summer 2026 and expanded its museum-like approach to retail. Taxidermy, skulls, fossils, meteorites, insects, minerals, books, science objects, and other natural-history curiosities share the store with large educational displays and working demonstrations. A T. rex replica greets visitors, live axolotls add an unexpected living exhibit, and devices such as a Van de Graaff generator and Newton's wave pendulum turn the shop into a place for experimentation as well as collecting.
