FLFlorida field entry
Robert Is Here
Homestead, FL
A 1959 Homestead fruit stand that grew into a tropical-produce market, legendary milkshake counter, specialty-food pantry, animal farm, play area, picnic stop, and weekend music destination.
Robert Is Here still sells rare tropical fruit at its core, but the family roadside stand has expanded into milkshakes, specialty sauces and preserves, live animals, play space, picnicking, community events and weekend music.
Field notes
Why it belongs
Fruit stand, tropical-produce market, milkshake shop, specialty-food store, animal farm, petting zoo, playground, picnic destination, live-music stop, and South Florida roadside landmark.
The products remain food-centered, but the physical experience is broad enough that families visit as an attraction even when they are not simply grocery shopping.
Robert Is Here began in 1959 when six-year-old Robert Moehling sat beside the road selling cucumbers beneath a handmade sign announcing his presence. More than six decades later, the family still operates the Homestead landmark, now known for rare tropical fruit, fresh produce, milkshakes and smoothies, jams, hot sauces, honey and other specialty foods. Behind the market, visitors can explore an animal farm, shaded play area and picnic spaces, while weekends and holidays bring live music and community activity. The result is a roadside fruit stand that gradually became a destination.
