Field notes
Why it belongs
Clothing boutique, shoe-and-accessory shop, jewelry store, gourmet market, toy shop, housewares store, bath boutique, stationery store, fair-trade market, Christmas shop, café, and historic-house attraction.
The rooms themselves create the experience: every doorway can feel like entering an entirely different specialty store.
Founded in Geneva in 1922, The Little Traveler grew from Kate Raftery's historic home into a sprawling 36-room shopping landmark. The original Victorian residence remains at the center, but visitors now move through rooms devoted to fashion, jewelry, shoes, gourmet foods, toys, housewares, bath and body goods, fair-trade merchandise, stationery, décor and seasonal collections. At the center sits the Atrium Café, continuing the hospitality tradition that helped define the store from its earliest years.
