Eagle's Store

West Yellowstone, MT

A century-old West Yellowstone store where fishing tackle, backpacking equipment, hiking and cowboy boots, western wear, jewelry, books and souvenirs surround an old-fashioned soda fountain whose back bar dates to 1910 and whose early counter and stools are still part of the experience.

Eagle's Store combines serious outdoor and western retail with a working historic soda fountain inside one of West Yellowstone's surviving early commercial landmarks.

Field notes

Why it belongs

Sporting-goods store, fishing shop, backpacking outfitter, boot store, western-wear shop, jewelry and gift store, bookstore and map shop, soda fountain and living historic retail landmark.

A broad working outdoor, western and souvenir store still operates around an active century-old soda-fountain installation inside a nationally recognized historic commercial building.

Eagle's Store grew from a partnered general store opened in 1908 and has remained part of West Yellowstone commerce for more than a century. Current merchandise ranges from fishing tackle and backpacking equipment to hiking boots, cowboy boots, western wear, jewelry, books, maps, Montana goods and souvenirs. In the same historic store is an operating old-fashioned soda fountain whose back bar dates to 1910, with its early tiled counter and much of the original stool material still surviving. The current rustic building was constructed in stages between 1927 and 1930 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
