Edwards Mill & General Store

Point Lookout, MO

A Point Lookout general store inside a working water-wheel grist mill, where College of the Ozarks students grind corn and specialty milled goods for sale while traditional weaving and basket making continue upstairs.

Edwards Mill combines specialty-food and craft retail with the machinery and student work that produce much of what visitors buy.

Field notes

Why it belongs

General store, working grist mill, specialty-food production, milled-goods shop, weaving studio, basket-making workspace, craft retail and live vocational training environment.

Retail goods are produced in the same water-powered visitor environment where they are sold, joining a working mill, weaving studio and general store in one specific campus building.

Edwards Mill & General Store sits on the College of the Ozarks campus in Point Lookout. The turn-of-the-century-style mill is powered by a twelve-foot water wheel, while student workers grind corn and prepare specialty milled goods that are sold inside. An upstairs weaving area continues the production story through traditional looms and handwoven work, including baskets, rugs, shawls and placemats. Stock and live work vary, so no individual product or demonstration is promised. This is not simply a souvenir shop decorated like a mill: the working production environment and retail store occupy the same destination.
