Field notes
Why it belongs
Marble store, collectible shop, traditional toy store, game shop, glass-art gallery, gift store, and working demonstration studio.
The store sells the finished object, the toys that use it and the experience of watching an artist create it from molten glass.
Moon Marble Company opened in Bonner Springs in 1997 after its founders struggled to find the varieties of marbles they wanted for the wooden toys and game boards they were making. The solution became a store of its own. Today machine-made play marbles sit beside handmade art-glass pieces, traditional toys, games and gifts, while glass artists regularly demonstrate the process of creating marbles by hand. The result crosses retail, collecting, nostalgia and working craft studio in a way that makes even a familiar childhood object feel like the center of an entire world.
