Field notes
Why it belongs
Historic trading-post retail, Southwestern and Indigenous art and textile gallery, jewelry and design retail, and Western-film costume-and-prop museum.
Trading post, art and textile retailer, jewelry/design operation and Western-film costume-and-prop museum inside one destination.
Nambe Trading Post sits north of Santa Fe near Nambé at the beginning of the High Road to Taos. The shop combines Navajo rugs and blankets, pottery, jewelry, textiles, fine art, beadwork and other Southwestern material with contemporary design and changing collectible inventory. The same destination houses the Museum of Western Film & Costume, where costumes and props connect the retail environment to the history and craft of Western filmmaking. Keep museum/display objects distinct from merchandise: some film-related material may be sold, but a display piece should never be described as inventory without current evidence.
