Field notes
Why it belongs
Design-focused game and curiosity shop, specialist playing-card store, optical-object collection and hidden 26-seat adult magic theater.
A substantial specialty shop for games, cards and playful objects conceals an intimate ticketed performance venue behind the retail floor.
Art of Play's Atlantic Avenue store assembles unusual playing cards, puzzles, games, books, toys, magic objects and small works of playful design in a carefully staged retail setting. Hidden behind the shop is 69 Atlantic, a 26-seat theater presenting ticketed magic and variety performances for audiences 21 and older. The theater is an internal scheduled experience rather than a second store: admission, dates and age rules belong to the show calendar, while the retail floor can be visited independently during shop hours.
