Field notes
Why it belongs
Working commercial letterpress shop, poster-and-gift retail, living design archive, guided production tour and scheduled hands-on printmaking experiences.
Visitors shop among the tools and output of a still-productive nineteenth-century letterpress tradition rather than entering a static historic display.
Hatch Show Print has been producing letterpress work since 1879 and remains an active commercial shop, designing and printing hundreds of projects for artists, performers and businesses each year. Its retail floor sells current posters, prints, apparel, books and gifts amid presses, type and examples of the shop’s visual history. Daily scheduled tours introduce movable type and include a keepsake-print activity, while separately scheduled Block Parties offer deeper hands-on printing. Hatch has been part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum family since 1992 and occupies its Rep. John Lewis Way lobby, but the museum’s other exhibits and shops are not part of this store record.
