Field notes
Why it belongs
Flagship cookware outlet, changing factory seconds, full-line retail and a ticketed interactive cast-iron museum beside active foundries.
The original factory outlet and a specialized museum turn cookware shopping into a destination about how cast iron is designed, made and used.
Lodge opened its first factory store in South Pittsburg in 1994 to sell factory seconds. The store has since expanded to a full Lodge product line while retaining changing seconds, accessories and cookware guidance. The adjoining Museum of Cast Iron adds a separate ticketed, self-guided experience about the company, cast-iron design and manufacturing, including an interactive foundry experience. The operating foundries sit beside the flagship, but Lodge currently says it does not offer tours of the actual foundry, and the company’s product guide shows that not every category sold here is made at this property.
