Field notes
Why it belongs
Magic shop, costume warehouse, theatrical-makeup counter, toy store, game shop, puzzle shop, science-toy store, tournament venue, and escape room inside a 16,000-square-foot castle.
Even without buying anything, the fantasy architecture, characters, demonstrations, hands-on games, and sheer range of departments make the store a destination.
Operating since 1983, The Wizard's Chest has grown from a tiny fantasy-inspired shop into a 16,000-square-foot Denver castle. Visitors move between a professional magic counter, hundreds of costumes, wigs and masks, theatrical makeup, toys, puzzles, science kits, juggling gear, board and card games, RPG supplies, miniatures, books, and other imaginative merchandise. Regular gaming groups, tournaments, hands-on play and a separate escape-room experience make the building as much an entertainment environment as a retail store.
